I want to know what folks are using for copper wire. PTFE insulation? I've seen some Belden SKUs posted by some.
I understand lots of people frown on Cadmium solder. I have found supplies in the US https://www.kappalloy.com/sol…. I plan to mix some with tin to lower it wetting temp.
I like and prefer crimps. I have a large number of crimping tools and seem to enjoy collecting them. Anyone have some favorites specifically for nanovolt work?
Unless you work with high-impedance signal sources, pretty much any copper wire would work just fine for nanovolts. I like to use silver-plated MIL spec PTFE cables from ebay, just to keep inventory smaller, but it's no difference when using regular DVMs compared to Keithley original nanovolt cable like 7168 has. Even regular shielded UTP6/UTP8 cables working just fine for stuff like zener standards connections and alike. For resistance work you'd want well insulated stuff, like PTFE, especially if go over 10 MΩ. Low current stuff below microamps obviously loves and dreams triax.
Since you ordering posts, I'd recommend to ask about Cd alloy solder in same place too, if it's available. One thing I wouldn't want to do is melting large metal nuggets without proper tooling and hoping it would come out ok, both health wise and electrical use wise :).
